No material "resting" occurs with blades. It may be that properties of metals could be described as particles moving over time, but in terms of the stuff at the edge that does the shave, no material difference between "resting" and "not resting".

I'm curious, if dovo is still claiming that, why they believe it. It may just be a carry over from an old wive's tale that continues to be printed.

Old wive's tales and wet shaving seems to go hand in hand in a lot of cases. A lot of the info out there has been passed down over a long period of time and is not backed up by scientific fact. Not too surprising as wet shaving is an art form not a science and you are free to use or disregard quite a bit of what is out there. The wet shave artist is free to experiment and find out what works for them on an individual basis.

We have a problem similar to this in woodworking, especially when engineers attempt to take some part of their technical knowledge and overlay it on woodworking without experience. I also have a technical background and have learned over time that when practical observation is easily available, it's certainly a lot better to just do as you say - try it and see if there's a difference. If you can't see it and prove it with your own eyes, it either isn't there or it isn't material enough to matter. For the person shaving, both of those (not there or not perceptible) are the same.

If both were made of the same steel. I guess they would. It's just the degree is negligible.

I say lets run a new experiment. Both ed hewitt and neil miller need to be the experimenters. I would like to see them rest - no posts - for three days and then see if they can snap back in full form. I think it would prove that the flexibility of the human spirit is set early in life and that silence is no deterrent to the depth and breadth of expression from seasoned commentators as they.

You're a man of the world, squire. I mean, you've been around a bit, I mean, like, you've shaved with a razor...

Two and a half years ago, I thought shaving with a cut throat was an old wife's tale...
I have often wondered why the newbies often don't get past 20 posts, after reading this entire thread, it has become abundantly clear. Run like the wind Straightandproud, while you still can. To answer your original question, Is "Resting a blade" complete bull?............................................. Maybe, maybe not.
