Kanayama #6000 Strop
I have read here through the search function lots about the #3, #9, and #10 Kanayama strops, but there's not much about the #6.
There are Kanayama #6's available from aFramestokyo, they say there is missprint kanoyama/kanayama (but understand that's his original name) where I got my #3, does anyone have the #6000 and what are the impressions. I'm looking for a Kanayama specifically for a friend.
Thanks.Last edited by Phrank; 11-10-2014 at 12:21 AM.

As I understand it, the "Kanayama" stamp on "Kanoyama"'s strops is as the result of a typo/spelling error made by the stamp manufacturer years ago. When Kanoyama-San was made aware of this, he thought it was pretty funny since he'd stamped about 100,000 strops over the years, and saw no need to change the stamp. What a cool old man!
I have no experience with the #6, but have a #3 and a 90K and have no reason to think the #6 is anything but a wonderful strop.!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

I have to ask, is there another zero in the number?
Before the relatively recent numbering change, his line up used to be 30,000; 50,000; 60,000; and 90,000.

Correct Geezer and Mike, the #60000 and got the name "missprint"...any opinions on the #60 000? What distinguishes it from the #30000 or any of the other strops? Thanks!

Phrank,
From what I recall, the general difference in these strops — 60000, 70000 and 80000 — is in the thickness of the leather. The 90000 is the longest, as I understand. I have the 70000 and the 80000, and the 80000 has a wee bit thinner leather, which I prefer. I love both strops, though; the feel of the razor on them is delicious. Good stuff.

I think a lot was about the final treatment of the leather and what material was used in the "Linen." Also the 90K had three lengths of stropping materials.
I would guess!! that the similar numbering of the new order would be about the same as the old but shorter.
I love it!!! The leather is so soft even a Swabby could wear it as a collar!

Thanked: 19The #60,000 is actually the same length as the #90,000 (660mm), compared to 600mm in all the other range. Interesting that its only the 60,000 and 90,000 that have the extra length! I wonder why he chose to make the 60,000 with the extra 60mm, given that its in the middle of his range.
I got the #3 from Aframestokyo earlier this year, and yesterday I ordered the #60,000 from the same. The vendor at Aframestokyo (Takeshi Aoki), emailed me yesterday to confirm dispatch, and he happened to mention that I got the last one. I have emailed him back to see if he expects more stock in the future, as his website shows all the Kanayama's he stocked as now being unavailable.
I hope for the sake of other purchasers that he can still get these great strops. There are other online vendors selling Kanayamas that show some stock, but Aframestokyo has by far and away the best prices. I saw a #60,000 on a couple of other sites yesterday for nearly twice the price that Aframestokyo are/were charging.

The other difference being the #8000 #9000 and #10000 come with a third component a suede strop while the others do not, and personally to me that suede is a pure joy to use and I definitely think it adds a subtle smoothness before you hit the Cordovan adding to the final edge.

While the #30000 is an excellent strop, I find the backing on it very nice, I have two other strops, the workhorse Illinois #827 with the cerium oxide hard back which is excellent, as well as the leather on that thing for a good after shave stropping. The 3" SRD Roo strop is a pleasure to use. I especially like the thick 100% pressed wool backing, great component.
The #30000 is a pleasure to strop with, and especially with the finer hollow ground blades, undoubtedly subjective on my part, but these Kanayama strops seem to the perfect match for the finer hollow ground blades, while I find the Illinois #827 better suited to the heavier Sheffield blades.
Having the #60000 on the way now, I'm interested to check out the suede backing which I've heard so much about, but some great info here, thanks.
