    Default Black horween shell cordovan

It has the stamp but it does not have horweens signature green backing on black shell cordovan. What does that mean? Again, it is a black horween shell cordovan with it authentic stamp, but does not have the green back that black shell from horween is famous for. It is just light tan in color. Does anyone know why?

Picture please. I have several Horween cordovan strops in both the black and traditional
"cordovan" colors all have plain leather backs with various parts of the Horween stamps in
black. Natural backs with black stamps is all I have seen from Horween over the years.

IMHO you're asking the wrong people. Ask the vendor, or maybe even give Horween a call and ask them.

It just looks to me like the processing might have not been completed. Are you sure it's not a second? I have several watch straps which are Horween Shell and they are made from scraps left over and they all have the usual green coloration and stamps.

But jimmy is right. get the answer from the horses mouth not the other end.

My strop's back is finished like the one pictured with the black stamp. The stropping side is not black though.

I will add, not to start a stampede, but there is rumored to be a puce Horween Shell Cordovan strop that is a legend among the few....if you can find one it contains, on the reverse of the strop one tenth of the Horween oval and will contain no letters indicating Horween. Puce is the new Black and a fragment of the Horween Oval is more valuable than the name which is now considered gauche to be stamped on the strop back.

That being the case, if I had one, I'd paint it green to cover the name !

Let me state right now and here that there is no way I am falling for that one.

Well, not since I read that thread about someone likening his razor to a diamond glittering in a goats ass.

Being rather foolish I reasoned that might well be a good place for an itinerant goat to park its stash.

Being totally uncaring for a mere goats reaction to being unceremoniously subjected to an invasion of such a personal sort (I dimly recall a few young ladies making such remarks about me in my younger days, but I was a callow youth then and dead intent on finding out the results of my theories on young woman, research long since abandoned as test subjects appeared to be rather contradictory) I set out to find an unsuspecting goat and relieving it of its treasure. I was almost dizzy with the novelty of it all, I might never have to work again, then my victim leapt into view.

Armed with a homemade giant speculum and a pair of tweezers I crept up on the unsuspecting goat, who had taken up a very convenient stance with its head low while it nibbled the grass.

I awoke in hospital with a violent headache. The goat had kicked me in the head leaving a hoof mark. The nurse looked at it and said 'ooh, thats lucky - could have been the other way round...' A bit snarky, I thought at the time...

I know that those of you who are delusional enough to have read any other posts I have contributed over the years (we call them 'inmates' over here, I believe the amercan equivalent is House of Congress, may be wrong though) may have come across the goat story in a shorter form before. I make no apologies. I merely point out you cant take everything at face value. Puce Horween, indeed!

    Regards,
    Neil.
