    Yeah I got the gold dollar for christmas but after reading all the stuff on here I ordered the ralf aust from SRP and cant wait for it to arrive. It will be my "first" real SR.

    I find horse hide to be my leather of preference but a high quality cowhide will work too. A 3" is a good strop to have but a narrower one will work too, you just have to use an x pattern. I use a large Mastro Livi loom strop & i don't know what he uses for his leather but it works good for me. I rarely use a conventional strop but do have a couple due to the fact I haven no collarbone in my left shoulder which is the side I use to pull it taut. I'm right handed & i found that I was tending to slack up on the conventional strops when stropping. I use very light pressure when stropping.
