Thanked: 12SRD Premium 1 Strop
So I got this strop in a few days ago and have been very impressed with it! This is only my second strop since I am a newbie. I killed my first strop learning the technique of stropping but I guess we all had to start some where. The edge of my razor actually feels sharper instead of duller now. I assume a lot of that has to do with better technique but better equipment cant hurt!?!?
Anyways, I wanted to thank SRD for a well made product!!

True! And you can swap leather types and fabric types for a song, with a screwdriver!

The Premium 1 is the only strop that I ever had where the draw was perfect for my preference right out of the box. Like Goldilocks' porridge, just right. Enjoy the strop.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3795I don't know the numbers, but I have the bridle, latigo, cowhide (or steerhide, I have no idea how it would matter), buffalo, and kangaroo. I like all of them and they are all different. It doesn't matter, they all work great!

Thanked: 12I have had this strop a month now and it is just like when I got it. Works and looks great! I haven't even managed to cut or nick it yet. Hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself.
If it's worth doing, it's worth over doing!

Anthonyb, how did you kill a strop? Stropping is a relaxing time, like shaving is. Go slow and deliberately. Turn the razor on it's spine and start the move in the other direction before you touch the edge to the leather/canvas. I take it slow and easy. I have an outstanding strop that's as good as anything made today or better. It's a Peter J. Michels. It is an antique one that is in terrific shape with a salmon-colored canvas side and a shell leather side. The draw does a terrific job on the edge. I may never buy another strop again, except in the event that I want to preserve it. In that case, I will buy another shell strop, no matter the cost. Are there any shell strops made today, outside of Europe, that don't cost an arm and a leg? I was told that there may be one company in Europe that makes shell strops the old way; the best way.
