This is what I like about a hanging strop - you can vary the tension and pressure to get different effects. I often start out stropping a freshly honed blade with lower tension and a bit more pressure to speed the polishing effect then switch to a bit more tension and lower pressure to perform the final alignment. Daily stropping is always normal tension and low pressure. It takes longer to learn how to milk the best edge out of a hanging strop but I think you can get a better edge faster from a hanging strop than a hard strop.
