Default Any tips on how to store paddle strops?

    Hello,

My double sided paddle strop just came in the mail, and I was wondering how should I store it?

It came in bubble wrap, so I'll keep it in that for now but I was hoping for a more secure method.

I think I might drill a hole in the handle, and place a hook through it. Then hang it in my closet or something, covering the pads with the bubble wrap every time.

Mine do have removable leather pads, so I could take them out, wrap them, and pull them out before a shave.

I'm just being picky and want a better method my imagination could not think of.

    Plastic bag should work well.

If you have good cardboard folding skills you should be able to go to the craft store and pick up a piece of fiber board and make a nice sleeve for it.

I just stick mine under a countertop in a cabinet. So far so good.

I made a balsa paddle strop with pastes and this is how I store it with no problems. Under the sink on the inside of the cabinet door. Conveniently located and protected.

I just leave mine in a spare room leaning on a wall. I'd be wary about putting it into anything as the pastes could rub off and contaminate the different strops.

thats why i would do as shaun suggested (make a cardboard sleeve) and just label the cardboard so that the same paddle face goes against the same side of the card. if i was really worried i would leave both ends open so any loose abrasive would just fall out when the strop was removed.

i made card sleeves for a set of pasted stropping boards, it wasnt too hard, just measuring scoring and folding.

Yes, a sleeve of some kind. I don't like plastic if it's a leather strop because leather has to breathe. Mine came in a cardboard sleeve so that's where it stays.

    RadikulRAM,

PLease PM me your address - I will send you some plastic bags that come with Perti dishes - the bags are long and thin, and I store all my paddle strops in them

    Have fun

    Best regards

That's how I do mine. I don't think you have to wrap them before you hang them up. bj
