    Default Felt Strop Question

Hello gentlemen how is everyone? OK down to the question I orderd a felt strop from SRD and have read the instructions on the liquid chromium oxide bottle. But from my experience in life you have the book way and the way stuff really works. How much spray would you apply to the strop? Is there anyone out there that has used this type strop before? Thanks for any input in advance.

    kkwk,

    Have a peek here :

Advice from Mr. Miller's site :

If applying to hard wool felt be careful not to saturate the felt, as bumps and ridges may occur (they can be removed by steam-ironing and pressing). The best way to apply the spray is lightly - not much more than a fine mist is necessary. Sweep the strop with one spray of the bottle, like using aerosol spray paint. If any spatter occurs, work it in evenly with the tips of the fingers before it can cause a localised, saturated spot. Let dry, test, and repeat if necessary.

I over applied my 0.5 micron diamond spray to my first hard-felt strop - I haven't made that mistake again

    Have fun

    Best regards

    Russ

I think the general rule with CrOx is that less is more. You are trying to get some on the strop and not a full coat. It will spread and move as you strop on it. If you get a lot on the strop you will likely find yourself putting a lot of effort into cleaning excess of your blade after you used that strop and before the next strop.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
