Thanked: 7Stroping
I stopped my razor today for the first time. Thanks to all thee advice in the forums I knew exactly what I was doing and it went great. 40 passes on the fabric and 60 on the leather. I'll find out tomorrow when I shave if I did a good job or not

So, how did your shave go after the first stropping attempt?
One piece of advice, which I had read on this forum when I was starting a year ago, and probably should have been more careful about:
Don't try to mimic the speed from the videos you see of people that have been doing this for decades. I tried to speed-up too early, and now I'm forcing myself to slow down. Make your stropping routine slow and controlled. I thought I had good control and good technique, but it only takes one wrong move with the angle ever so slightly off to either damage the strop, or the razor, or both... Take the extra few seconds to do it properly, it will pay off with less damage to your kit, and a better shave.
