are there any instructions on the paste tube? Generally, a new strop only requires a vigorous rubbing with the palm of your hand. I say, skip the paste.................

Old posts say, it is lamp black, but I would find out what is in it before applying it to your strop. Once you paste a strop, you can never completely remove it. More importantly what are you trying to achieve with a pasted strop, keenness or smoothness?

Lamp black was used years ago, now days we have more and better options, where grits are known and some as small as sub-micron.

Most paste for comfort, Razor quality Chrome Oxide is recommended to smooth an edge, do not use Chrome Oxide used for polishing, they usually contain aggressive compounds like aluminum oxide that will chip an edge.

You can paste a piece of cardboard to test, if you don’t like what it does to the edge, don’t use it.

If I recall correctly, Kriegar razors are razor shaped objects that can reliably open mail.
good quality stainless such as Henckels Friodur shave very well.
letting a razor sit 24 hours or more between uses is thought to be myth by most experienced SR users, but is accepted by some respected persons. If true, the effect is subtle.

Check the Classifieds, right now there are 4-5 under $100 and a bunch of nice razors in the 100-150 price range, most shave ready.

Those razors will last a lifetime.
