    Default I bought a Monster.

I recently bought a Mastro Livi Large Strop Board. It comes in a lovely wood case, but man is it big. 16 1/2 inches long and 3 ‘’ wide (a tad under), One side is green (Coated with Chromium Oxide) and one side is yellow. The yellow is the leather side.
Has anyone had experience with this strop board.? If so, can you provide me with any technical advise

What I was told is to give the razor about 30-40 laps on the yellow leather side before shaving.
To use the Green side (cloth) when the razor is starting to lose its edge.

How do you use it. Put it on the table , your lap, or on that real nice wood box.

Also somewhere I been told to use the cloth side before the leather. Does this still hold true to this strop?
    Thanks for your help
Also, wife not happy with the size of this item. I might end up in the garage.

Is it a board (paddle) or a loom strop?

hasstar, if you look at Lynn Abram's Youtube channel you will find a video of him using the Livi loom strops. Likewise, Razorguy has a video of Livi himself using the loom strop on his channel.

The green linen side is only to be used for touching up a razor that is not performing optimally. For most straight shavers, stropping is done first on linen (or cotton, or webbing, or whatever) and then on leather. If this is your only strop, then you will routinely only strop on leather. Do not strop on the green linen every day.

My friend, Tarkus (Darl) Has a Livi loom strop. He relates it came really loaded with CroOx on one side. So, as Utopian pointed out, Some discretion there. I think you just hold the sucker out and go at it?

Hold how ever it is most comfortable for you to make good laps with. I rest mine on my knee while sitting. Sometimes on the edge of a table at the right height. You will have to find what works best with your motor skills. I just find that holding out with no back up is adding to the mix of things to do. Go slow to find your sweet spot.

I had the standard Livi loom. I always held it by the handle with my left (non dominant) hand, and let the other end rest on a counter top. Tilted it down at an angle, and stropped on the leather. Same way I use the Lynn Abrams modular paddle now.

As has been noted, I only used the green side when the razor might have needed it. I mostly use a hanging strop and didn't use the loom enough to keep it, so it is now in a good home elsewhere.

I have the large Livi loom strop.

Like Jimmy says, that's how you use it.

Because of the size I do about 40 passes on it rather than the usual 60 I do on a normal strop. The CrO side is for touchups not daily use. I usually use a different linen strop first.

The leather on it is some of the most luxurious leather I have ever seen-soft like butter.
