Thanked: 4826I have been there and done that. As long as it really is leather, I doubt the source matters that much, and as long as it is clean and straight. Older belts tend to be a little bent up and would not be my first choice.

I shaved a couple of times without stropping, but the second shave was definitely not as good as the first one.
I then tried stropping on my belt and while my shave was better than the the unstropped one, it was still not as good as with a proper strop.
The conclusion is then, that using a leather belt as a strop i possible but only recommendable for emergency needs.
