    You can clean it but even simple soaking may remove label's. Start with the lightest possible option. It looks like it has been kept well and doesn't need much. If using for knives I would buy a cheap one rather than risking this nice heirloom one

    Thanks guys! Knowing what I know now, I may just leave it the way it is and not risk damaging it. I had no idea it was such a quality strop!
