Stropping is the final polish of your bevel and edge, before you put the razor to your face. It is the last chance to improve the edge.

The edge of a razor, the real cutting edge cannot be seen with the naked eye and even most magnification. Do you really think that, thump in the middle of the strop is doing the edge any good?

Cut it up, and make a pasted paddle out of the good parts and call it a day.

As I recall they were inexpensive strops to begin with, not the best leather, and I believe they are out of business now.

    Thanks for all the replies.
I am using the strop, and just avoiding that area. I have the back side of the cloth component pasted with crox, so I can use it in that way, if nothing else.
I have a few other strops of much better quality, so I have other options as well.
But you don't learn without trying, and sometimes asking. I appreciate all of your help.
