Packwood was a famous strop maker
Most of us know Packwood razors and the history of Mr. Packwood. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever seen or heard of a surviving Packwood strop. I would love to see this rare thing. Surely some have survived, I know that time is the enemy in this case but surely a few have. So gents, has anyone seen one?

There was a huge thread on Packwood sometime ago. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...d-mystery.html
I don't recall anyone posting of having scored a Packwood strop but I wouldn't be surprised if one turned up in the wide world.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

George Packwood was a pervayor of stops and pastes of quite some renown. 1794 is the first mention I can find of him. Notably he was a true capitalist and ad man, branding his own name and making it ubiquitous with shaving. He was one of the first people to advertise everyday household products. He would pen jingles, employee poets, and release pamphlets of ads to draw in the customer. Some of his ads read alot like a tv commercials. There are some nice papers and a few books with a chapter focusing on Mr. Packwood ( I will link to some, below).
In his quest to be a one stop shop of all things shaving he developed soaps and employed (contracted) some person or persons to make fine razors with the Packwood. The razor maker(s) are where the large mystery comes about as (as far as I know) no one has ever identified this person(s).
Check out the thread mentioned by Jimmy ha
Packwood
Household words by Charles Dickens (fine shaving is the heading for Packwood)

You can also search his name under images and see some of his ads. I am also attatching a pic of three packwoods that i own so you can see the variations (the stylistic differences could be do to time of manufacturers or different makers). I hope all of that helps.
