Thread: Lipshaw, SAD and a little Dementia....

Was just scrounging around downstairs, and turns out I purchased a Lipshaw massively huge block of a strop, things huge, and have absolutely no idea what to do with the darn thing. Sheesh, I have no recollection of ever purchasing this thing....

All the sections appear to be bolted on, no instructions, aren't these things for microtomes?

They work wonderfully for razors. As you can find the Lipshaw black panels in good nick, they are a super pre-leather strop.
I have too many, TBH. I have the ones which you can just pop on a panel. Most of the leather on them has been replaced with various panels provided by Neil Miller.

Now it all comes back to me....yes, there was a thread about these things, and I remember seeing the panels that Neil did, and that set the SAD off.

The one I have is in fairly good condition, but when I got it, the panels were all bolted on - so essentially, you can't rotate it, or change out the material - which means I ended up with a block of wood with a couple of pieces of old material bolted to it....

Not a winner....oh well, winter's coming....

It was the one in your pic, rotates, easily changeable material...metal case...very nice....

Need another? Wood, old, stuff bolted on....

Say, are you done with that Morris & Frondran I loaned you yet ? ..........

Really...when I read Obie describe the M&F as a harsh brush, I couldn't have agreed more, substantially more scritchy as he said then the Shavemac D01, but the Shavemac is close. The Shavemac differs in the biggest manner in my opinion in the way it holds the lather. The M&F will load up, yet the hairs still have considerable play, they move around a lot on your face, while I find the Shavemac tends to clump a bit.

Been casting my eye around for another M&F, but sheesh, they really fetch a pretty penny, even if you can find one.

Think I'll look on eBay again for another M&F brush, maybe I can interest the seller in a vintage Lipshaw strop, box included?

Yes, Sharpton, you have too many Lipshaw strops. I'm still looking for my first.

I especially admire the wall mounted one next to what I assume is your bed. Since you've got razors behind the pillow, I'll assume this set up is for sleepless nights.
