Thanked: 18Used strops
Hi,
Grabbed a couple of used strops to have a spare. They came bent in half and one have a few nicks. What should I do.
They are pictured next to my kanoyama and are very similar. Not sure if they are the same thou.

Bend does not look too bad. Periodic hand rubbing should straighten thos bad boys out

Strop treatment and repair - Straight Razor Place Library has the basics. There are some more intricate concepts buried somewhere in this forum, and it should not be too difficult to find them. I vaguely recall one commercial strop maker having a tutorial for your exact problem on his website, and it included the liberal use of neatsfoot oil (I think), but I cannot find that page right now.

Thanked: 18Already had a look at it. But beyond vigorous rubbing it does not say much. What about that missing chunk?

Thanked: 3215Yea, pretty sure they were all made by Mr. Naomi, there is a list some were, with all the stamps that he has used.
Remove the leather from the linen, and wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel on both sides. Lay flat or hang with a bit of weight. The added moisture will relax the leather and it will straighten out. It may take a few applications, wait at least a day between applications.
Once flat, moisten with a damp towel again, wait a few minutes 10-15 minutes, then put a few drops or Neetsfoot oil on a paper towel and rub it into the strop, just a couple of drops, the water will relax the fibers so it will draw the oil deep into the leather. Wait a couple of days and add another application 2-3 drops, on a folded paper towel, rubbing well into the leather.
Take your time adding moisture and oil to the leather and it will get flat and supple.
Nice find and a great collection of strops.
It should not be a problem, the razor will glide over it, but if you do feel it, some Bees Wax worked into the void, should smooth it out.
Is the middle strop the suede strop?
There are directions on the Aframes site, on how to condition the linen.
Nice find and a great collection of strops.

Nope. They are all leather. The lama one I bought new. The middle one looks new too. It's only the one that shows signs of use.
I will go have a look at the stamps.Last edited by Rami; 07-28-2016 at 05:44 AM.

Getting the moistened and oiled should do most of it. If not once pliable properly you can run them over and edge of a bench on the back side drawing back and forth and that should loosen it up fully. With the divit drop water onto it slowly until quite wet and it will swell al level out mostly. Once dry sand it smooth. Repeat if necessary just make sure you sand lightly and burnish after.
My wife calls me.........Can you just use Ed
