Default Tips on using the modular strop?

I am thinking about buying the modular strop. Any tips on how to use it? Which surface is best for the diamond spray? The felt? What is scrub leather?

Would this be a good progression for a slight sharpening: felt with diamond, pure felt, scrub leather, then pure leather

I am also thinking of buying chromium oxide* (spray or paste), since I didn't like the diamond paste I used before. Never used diamond spray though.

    Thanks guys!

*(as someone who likes painting, I just realized that chromium oxide is one of the pigments often used in paints. We are stropping with the color viridian )

I have SRD's modular strop and love it. I have the 2 felts with .5 and .25 diamond past and the scrub leather with dovo red paste and smooth leather for dovo black paste.
I have found I dont use the felt with diamond past anymore and just use the leather with the dovo pastes. But that is just me, you might find the felts are more to your liking.

I recently saw a Mastro Livi video on strops. He uses a chromium oxide paste on leather so I decided to take my SRD modular strop and coat one of the leather pads with his chromium oxide paste. After it dried for over an hour I took a vintage Sheffield razor I was going to hone and did 15 laps on the modular strop just to see how the blade reacted. Man it really put the edge back. I then used my Mastro Livi medium loom strop leather side and did 20 laps. The edge was really shinning and the shave was extremely smooth. Either way, you can get a lot of benefits with the SRD modular using the right combinations. I have asked Lynn if and when he will make a linen or poly pad for the modular strop, that would really add to it's worth. I may try and take a old pad and make one.
