Thanked: 0Strop Restore
Is this fixable or is it possible to get the leather replaced? Someone has sanded it with fairly rough sand paper.

Thanked: 59That leather looks very worn out to me, but in person it might be a different story. On the heavily used side I see too many high spots that would not treat a razor very well. It was probably used for a kitchen knife by the looks of it. Those are nice tools and I would be inclined to further its future by treating it to a nice new piece of leather. Then it will look great and perform like a master!

I'll assume the handle is ivory.
The leather is shot. replace it and you'll be good to go. Check Tandy and see what they have.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Lovely strop! Where are you located, enahS?
We may be able to find you a stropmaker to provide a new piece of proper leather for that.
It would seem to deserve a proper job!

Thanked: 0Im in cobourg ontario. The handle is indeed ivory. I tried disassembling it and sanding it yesterday, I will post pictures later. Would this be acceptable to replace the leather.

Would be nice..A bit overkill, I think?
Some communication with Westholme and other makers may yield an exact size in your choice of leathers.
Not to mention replacement strop panels from SRD which could be cut to fit.

Thanked: 0I think you may be right the shell is too expensive for this use. How about horse butt strip? I also got a couple automatic stroppers and at least this one needs the leather replaced as it was cracked and is pig hide.
I am thinking that the chromexcel or veg tanned will work but don't know if one is better then the other.
