Thread: Gabrielcr78's strop has arrived!

So as I am restoring some old Boarhide strops and Gabe has been making some local shavers in Costa Rica happy with his work, we decided to swap out some examples of our stuff.
My end of the trade was sent a while back and his work has arrived finally as delayed by the weather we were having.
I am quite impressed!

Upon preliminary inspection it is constructed similarly to lots of strops, but the differences begin there. Firstly, the horsehide he used is extremely nice. The outer 'shell' is slick, smooth, and soft. The old 'rubbing the palm' test is reminiscent of high-end vintage shell strops and will certainly get better and better with use.

The secondary strop is vintage linen fire hose. Feels great.

The hardware and handles really shine, IMO. Fit and finish is superb and mine came with some 'antiqued' hardware which all matches, including the screws.
The contrasting dark leather handles are surprisingly soft. Very comfy in-hand.

Was a home-run to do a swap with him.
I am certain to enjoy this strop for years to come.
Not to mention it is cool to have something from Costa Rica!
