    Question Herold Linen Strops?

Anyone tried these? I contacted the seller and he said it was flax linen. It certainly has a lower price point than any real linen I've seen. I've never purchased a fabric strop so I don't have a basis for comparison.

Not familiar with them but seems like a good price for Linen. only bad thing might be it's 2 inch width though that's what a lot of old strops were. Would have to just do a x stroke.

Just because it says linen doesn't mean squat. It's a matter of the thickness, the texture, the thread count and the hardware.

You usually get what you pay for but of course you can be the guinea pig for the rest of us and you might find a treasure.

Aren't these the same as the Dovo strops?

If they are, I find them to be quite good tbh, I've used many and find that these work perfectly fine, their linen component I have on mine is in a V-shape pattern and I quite like that one as well; I've seen other linen components on these strops, I have a relatively old one, so I'm not sure if they're still the same

Looks like this, often times they come dressed in white paste Name: normal_Linen.jpg

Maybe I'll wait and just keep using my DIY leather strop. I was hoping maybe someone had tried them out. If I do get one I'll post some better pictures. They only show ONE picture of the Strop so you can't see the thread pattern or thickness. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

I have a 2"-wide Herold linen-only strop and like it. It's basically a loop forming two stropping surfaces. Often, these are sold already white-pasted with a leather component, as Tristan mentions above; but the linen-only version is sold without paste of any kind. I used it for a little while without paste, until it started to pill a little. Then I pasted the stamped side with the Solingen white tube paste and the non-stamped side with Solingen red tube paste. Works great in tandem with a 2"-wide leather-only strop I have as an occasional refresher.

It must not be very dense/rigid linen if it starts to pill that quickly. I wasn't really planning on using it pasted, so I guess I should wait and get something sturdier. Thanks for the insight.

I have tried it and was not keen on it.

If you want a good linen 3 inch wide look no further than whesthome strops there around £30 it’s much softer and once used it’s lush to use
