Picked this up under the radar from the bay several days ago. It was ugly but no cuts or tears. Scrubbed the leather gently with water and some saddle soap just to loosen and dissolve the crud. Used a nylon brush mostly. Let it dry overnight. Just using palm from here on out. The linen was a nice firehose that had lots of gunk and was super nasty. Used Sharptonn's technique to clean it up. Two treatments of oxy clean to washed it out also loosened gunk with the nylon brush. Then soaked it twice with half cup of Corox bleach. That turned it to a bright white. Let it dry over night with 30 pounds or weight. Took out all the wrinkles. Only real problem was a one inch tear in the learther near handle/grip. I caused that problem trying to work with the leather piece when still wet. Fixed that with a leather backing and 9 stainless steel domd washers on both sides after applying glue to both pieces of leather. Added brass grommets to leather and linen strops and cleaned up the hanger hardware with Bar Keepers Friend cleanser. Secured the leather tear and now have a nice grip as well. This is a great old strop and will serve as a workhorse. Photos tell the story. Just to share. Thanks, Austin
