Sounds like a practice on it with a butter knife until you feel comfortable situation.
Don't really know much myself but have seen that suggestion here many times and have used it myself on new strops. It works.

The light touch might be felt with a single sheet of news print rolled up and used as a strop.
A single page rolled up about 4cm/2inches in diameter would not be very strong and would collapse the tube in a telling way
with too much pressure. If you cut it just get another sheet of news paper.

As for makers model numbers. I can see no simple pattern in the Illinois brand Leather Razor Strop numbers.
These folk have five different Illinois Brand strops.. Length, width, leather, canvas style, handles, hardware.

I do not know what the full line of current Illinois Brand strops is but they have been at it a while.Last edited by niftyshaving; 06-10-2018 at 12:25 AM.

Thanked: 21Hello everyone.
Thank you all for your messages.
It's not that I did not know how to use it but especially that I can not do well without handle.
I was so afraid of hurting him ... that he is going back to his country.
