How to properly ship a 3” Steerhide Tony Miller Strop
Hi,
Simple question: how do I ship this thing? Do I need to find a box long enough to contain it flat? Can i gently cup it around so as to halve the length? (Guessing this is best?). Can I roll it up slightly with very little tension (prob not?). Don’t want to disappoint the buyer but also don’t want to kill him with shipping charge. Will be combining postage with a coticule so same box. Going from Ireland to Germany.
(Been ages since posting here, I feel back at home lol )
Cheers
Daniel

Flat makes for pricier shipping. Nothing wrong with loosely rolling it and putting it into a box, IMO.

I've received them in the flat rate medium box that's more flat. It was somewhat looped and stuffed that way so it could not bend while in shipping.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Yeah, there is a med priority box for the same dough which is taller, yet not as wide/long. Costs the same.
That is best to loosely roll it, I think.

Thanked: 4828It seems to me that it matters if it curls with the hid on the inside or the outside, but for the last few of me cannot remember which way is best. There are threads about it here somewhere but I cannot search with this device.

Good point! I always roll them loosely with fabric out. No crack the surface of the leather if it is so inclined.
Loosely, now!

Well, Tony just shipped me a 2.5" Steerhide which arrived this past weekend. Two actually, one rough-out and one premium smooth, plus a separate linen strop, because I like Tony's linen better than anybody else and use it with other leather strops. All strops arrived in perfect condition, and are amazing as expected. I bought my last Tony Miller almost 7 years ago, about the last time I posted on this forum(!). Time passes so quickly, but the true classics endure.
They were sealed in individual plastic wraps (to protect against moisture if left out in the rain or something), were all loosely rolled sitting on their edge, stropping surface side out. Heavily packed with rolled up newspaper to retain the shape of how they were packed. They came in a US Postal Service Priority Mail box, 15 3/8" X 12 1/2" X 3 1/8" (39 cm X 31.75 cm X 8 cm, roughly).

My point as in 'so inclined'!
A new Tony Miller strop would not be as inclined to crack the surface as rolled to the inside as an old-untreated strop would be.
Hence the difference!

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it. So stop on it’s side, leather out, rolled only loosely and packed well to prevent movement. I could wrap in cling film if it would help? Not sure how to seal it with plastic otherwise. Cling film is Saran Wrap for you guys
