Default How to treat diy veg tan syrop

    Hi there
I've bought a bunch of veg tan shoulder for making strops and it has not gotten my razors as sharp as my older diy latego strop. The latego is about 3 mm and light draw. The veg tan was thicker then I used a hand plane to shave back and it is as flexible as the working latego strop. The surface of the veg tan is smooth and clean, I used 600 grit diamond and vacuumed it after. I used a bottle to work it in as well. How do people people treat diy veg tan leather strops?

I made mine some time around 2013 and have done nothing at all to it apart from rubbing with the palm of my hand. Some may say neatsfoot oil which is a great leather conditioner, but I have never used it because:
    1) it has never needed it (may have been different in the veg tan was really dry)
    2) I have no idea how to apply neatsfoot in a way that would give both a light coat and an even coat.

    YMMV, etc., and so on.
    32t and RezDog like this.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
