Dovo Paste

I read about all the other paste but what about Dove paste. I know what the yellow and white are for. What grit is the green, red, and black and how to the compare to the rest?

I think the green is fairly coarse as pastes go although I don't find I need it (and haven't used it). I go straight from the Norton 8k to the Red then Black pastes. I don't know what grit they are but, having now found a good technique for using them, 50 laps on each of them takes a very good edge to being a great edge.

If the edge becomes too dull to be brought back to life by the red/black paste combo, it goes back to the stones!

Edit: Sorry, edit to say that although I don't know what the grits are, I reckon that the red/black pastes should usually be used as a pair and give similar results to CrOx. Of course there are plenty of weird and wonderful things you could use to give similar results.

There is a lot of info in the wiki I just can't find it sometimes.

I'll readily admit that the built in search isn't the best (Search results for "dovo paste" - Straight Razor Place Wiki). But the google search below that usually does the trick.

Sorry about hijacking this thread however I have just been to Edwin Jagger the brush manufacturer (joy of living in Sheffield) and tried to buy some white Dovo strop paste. They said that the yellow and white tubes are the same and showed me an email from Dovo that said this. Has anybody got both the white and yellow paste and can you tell me if there is a difference. Edwin Jagger did say that they would chase this up and get back in touch however with it been Christmas they said that it will be in the new year before they get an answer.

I have both, and that statement is incorrect. They are completely different. The white paste is indeed white, the yellow paste is similar in colour to an alum block. The white paste is also more lubricated than the yellow, which seems almost waxy.

The lowdown - two different products!
