Thread: Best position for hanging your strop.....

I'm just curious as to what position you guys use to strop your razors. Most of the videos I've seen so far have the strop in more of a horizontal position and only a few I've seen have them in an angled position, maybe 45 degrees or so. My grandfather used to keep his high on the back of the bathroom door on a hook. So basically his strop was more vertical. Does the position matter as much as the actual technique?

It does not seem to matter according to posts I've read on the topic. As for me I went with what I had seem pro barbers do when I was a kid. Theirs was hooked to the arm of the barber chair about waist high. I use a door knob which puts the strop about waist high for me. I think it is whatever works for you and you get used to.

I also don't think it matters. Mine are attached about chin high because there was a handy place to hang them in my closet. The angle is higher than most, but what you learn on is what you become accustomed to.

It's personal choice, really, & it seems we all have our preferences.

I recall the old Barber's shops always had them hanging off the chair, sometimes attached to the counter, but always waist high. I would say that's the optimal position.
I have a large walk in closet that's become my shave den. it has those white wire shelfs.
On one side is a rack from floor to the top shelf, about 7 feet. I have my strops hanging via Caribinners on the middle shelf, a little higher than my waist, so I have mine at a downward angle, but very minimal. They just a little higher than my waist. What ever feels most comfortable to you...

I have always used a doorknob which puts the strop in about the same position as the barber chair method. My grandfather and most of my uncles hung their strops high, almost verticle.

I think as previously stated its what you get use to and the technique rather than position or placement.
