Well, I might be a wee bit cynical but just because it SAYS "registered trademark", doesn't men it actually is...basically, it's just a metal stamp, so it could every well be that when whoever made that strop went out of business, he sold off his stuff and the stamp ended up in Japan.
OOooor...well, maybe someone in Japan liked the look of the stamp and had a copy made. Stranger things have happened...
Good luck on your search, though. You might find something really exciting!

Will another one of these strops have showed up on eBay and is very similar to mine except this one has South America camel on the bottom below the logo instead of registered trademark. This one also was made for a company in Pennsylvania and has the same 928 stamped on the bottom. I cannot get anybody to answer the phone at Sunbury Barber & beauty supply Inc. to inquire about the strop with their business name on it. I went to the registered trademark website and found only one registered llama tradename that had to do with leather they first registered in 1934 and I think the last registration date was 1963 but the company is no longer in service and that particular registered trademark name is dead for that company. I hope to pick up a genuine Kanayama strop one of these days but in the mean time I will use this vintage strop. it's been a pleasure trying to figure out this vintage strop. Thanks everybody.

Here is my Kanayama. The Linen is very coarse which could/should be an indication.

Nice-looking strop Maskwa. Yours has the same registered trademark logo as my strop. That model may be my next purchase when it comes time to buying a new strop. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Thanked: 31Please if you can help me. I find that www.rasurpur.de sell Kanayama strops, but that strops not marked way #10000, #20000, #30000 etc. but only with one number eg "3". So if anyone could tell are that strops original Kanayama or not, and why they have different number marking. The owner says that is Llama brand but with different number marking, and why I could not find that kind of marking anywhere except this shop. Help please

Thanked: 346I've got both a Llama #3 from rasurpur and a Llama #70000 from rasage poulin, and the rasurpur strop is definitely a Kanoyama Llama. I don't know what grade it corresponds to in the x0000 scheme, nor why the numbering is different. May be as simple as the purchasing agent thought all the extra zeroes were a bit excessive and the #3 is just a #30000 without all the zeroes.

Thanked: 31I also think that "3" is corespodent with 30000 but not sure. It will be nice if producer can explain that thing. Thank you

Thanked: 1That 70000 is a beautiful strop! thinking about getting one at some point...or the 80000. Maybe you could help JimR - how much of a difference does the third "rough" horsehide strop make? What does it do to the edge?
With regards to trademarks - not sure if this will help but it will give some information. Thiers Issard has the sabatier brand/trademark, but a few other companies in france ALSO have the rights to use the same trademark (these companies are not linked to Thiers Issard in any way). The way to distinguish the TI Sabatier is from the elephant logo used with it.
This goes to show that a different company (possibly in Japan) could also legally be using Llama Brand as a registered trademark. The simple way to find out if it is a Kanayama or not is do what Jim R did and contact Yoshimasa Naomi (or kindly as Jim to do it!) and ask.

Just for public information: I have spoken to Naomi-san, and he informed me that the "3" stamped strops have the same specifications as the #10000 stamped strops. The "3" was a special request from one of his distributors.
Full disclosure: I do not sell either the "3" or the #10000 stamped strops.
