Thread: B&B Strops

I found some ads for "B&B" or "Beauty and Barber" leather strops.. Here it is. As you can see, this deal also comes with a razor (can't be that good of quality I imagine). Does anyone have experience with this brand? I checked the good/bad brand list and didn't see it on there at all.. I'm not really worried about the razor quality, I'm more concerned about the strops as I want to increase my collection and have one or two for pasting. Even if it's not the greatest strop, how would I go about re-conditioning it to a good serviceable standard?

EDIT:: They claim the blades to be carbon steel, so even if it's not that great out of the box, it should be able to hone up nicely I imagine.. but again, not too worried about a "free razor"

an interesting side note, I found this ad as well, so if it was a decent blade, this would be a good find I think.. Here it is. They claim it to be high quality carbon steel with a blue titanium finish..

the razors are very likely to not hone 'nicely' if at all.
i suspect the strops are no good either, but if you feel adventurous why not.
somebody may have actually tried them so check the thread for a while.

it defenetly belongs with the bad ones
i have given up making this usable as it is much easyer just getting a strip of leather thats flat in the first place

Thanks, yeah, I would imagine that it wouldn't be the best, this is why I'm now looking at (and drooling over) This. I can't wait to have the money to get this. Does anyone have experience using this one? Would love to hear how well the stone works, considering the price, it would be far more economical than most other stones, let alone getting a strop along with it!

i have no idah how that stone works but its probably a useable finisher

If you're really interested, email the site on that paddle strop/stone combination. The owner's a member & may have some thought's on what it actually is, though on his site he say's it's similar to an arkansas.
Why risk buying any unknown strop or stone from a vendor, or the bay? The risk is they may well end up being a POS. You can get something tried & tested & inexpensive from Kenrup or TM.

Yeah, I'm actually looking into getting the Filly/razor combo.. What are everyone's thoughts on the Gold Dollar razor offered at RupRazor? It seems everyone here has really good experiences with his products, so I would trust it over anything else, but just thought I'd ask for people's personal experiences so I know what to expect.

I have a Gold Dollar honed by Lynn, and I actually somehow prefer it to my Dovo Best Quality... Could be that the DBQ is a full hollow, and the GD is closer to 3/5 - 3/4, could be that the DBQ is 5/8ths spine, and the GD is 6/8ths, I'm not sure, but I get a GREAT shave from that thing... If it's all honed right, its a winner in my books.

sounds like a good deal to me then, $60 for a good strop and good razor, can't ask for much better.. I just hope I can get it before the 31st when his sale runs out (lifetime hone guarantee, just pay shipping for honing)

Well, the post where I recommended the bismark is deleted now, but it's not exactly an unknown strop. I've had several people tell me their information says it's manufactured by the manufacturers of Illinois strops. And I'm using one at the moment (slightly larger model). It's an excellent strop, and mine came from that seller. I can't comment on the leathers quality vs the Filly (as I don't have a Filly). But it's wider and includes a canvas strop. The Filly is a little cheaper, a little smaller and includes a Chrox side instead of canvas. I think both are excellent options.
