I made a denim strop over the weekend and used it yesterday AFTER using the leather. Keep in mind I am a newbie, but I had the best shave that I have had to date. But, I also was messing with my angle a bit as well, so that might have had something to do with it also. I made it wide enough that I did not need to do an X pattern when stropping, and put a piece of steel rod in the top hem to keep it from cupping when pulled taut.

The shave went fine using denim only. Keep in mind that I'm shaving with an old Sheffield stainless wedge, so my choice of blade may have had something to do with how much the fin flexes during the shave. I tried a great deal to see any difference, and I can honestly say, I couldn't tell much of one. The shave was not QUITE as smooth as running it over the leather pre-shave, but the result wasn't bad by any means.
I MIGHT go for two in a row to see the difference on the second shave. Again...MIGHT
