lately I've been going from a balsa coated in CroOx to newspaper, and i just find a really full section of print (like the comics or something image heavy) and slide my balsa strip (probably 1/4" thick X 4 wide X 8 long) under the newspaper to give it a solid but edge-safe surface to strop on. works like a charm... I have gone straight from the newspaper to shaving w/out any other stropping on my last three hone jobs just to test it out. I'm a believer

Thanked: 11Thank you. I've occasionally stropped on old paperback books (the dry musty pages are best) and never admitted it for fear of being thought delerious.
Newpaper sounds like the same effect, perhaps I'm NOT losing it just yet.

I have found my shaves a little smoother after 100+ laps on newspaper after honing and stropping on leather. I still do 50 felt/50 leather before shaving.

Thanked: 522Newspaper
Try wrapping the newspaper around a hardcover book. That works when you are travelling on the road. Do hotels rooms still have the bible in the nightstand. You should get a heavenly shave from that stropping.
What will we use when newspapers go all digital???JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

Get creative. I like to find the really dense black adverts to strop on, ie audrie tattoo or whatever her name is, I've stropped on the titanic, watch ads are great. I like to make a bi monthly chore of it for no particular reason, do all my razors at once. 100 laps each, with 5 pages of newspaper taped around a hone, or held down on a counter top, I used a microwave door almost anything works.
