Default SRD premium 1 strop set????

Hey guys one quick new guy question, I own a premium 1 srd strop and I was wondering if the cloth side is only for pastes or should I be doing a few laps on it before going to the leather strop?

    thanks guys.

I do 50/50 cloth and leather before a shave, and 25/25 after a shave

I think traditionally the linen is used plain and unpasted right before going to the leather. However, you can choose to paste the linen side and use it that way too. But once you decide to paste your strop, there's no going back, so you need to think carefully before you do.

Also keep in mind that pasted and unpasted strops are used for two different purposes. Unpasted is used for normal, everyday stropping, whereas pasted is used only when your blade begins to get a little dull or in the normal course of sharpening a blade.

I leave my daily driver unpasted. A separate strop for paste is the way to go be it paddle, hanging or balsa. Only used when necessary.

Default SRD Premium 1 Strop Set

    Hello, Sburton1:

I don't use paste. My stropping pattern is usually 25 on cloth and 50 on leather. Sometimes I use a 30 and 60 pattern. On the Wacker razors, because of their hard steel, I usually do 50 cloth and 100 leather. It seems to work for me.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Default Probably a stupid question

On the linen can 1 side be a regular everyday and the other side be a paste? Or does it not work that way?

I have never tried that, but I would be very worried about the paste contaminating the clean side, and thus leave me without a plain fabric strop.
For everyday stropping I really feel that having both a clean fabric, and a clean leather is the way for me.
