just strop 6 laps?
I was thinking about the instructions that came on a vintage strop (my last post) ...
they said strop 6 times.
A Genco ad that I saw said something similar too.
Are we overstropping?

Try it and see how it works for you. An old barber in the '80s told me the same thing on stropping and on honing. That is why I gave up in frustration after awhile. My routine now is 50 linen and 50 leather and it is working just spiffy for me.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If it doesn't do right, i doubt it'll hurt to try 7 or 8.
I am pretty happy with a dozen, and i have pretty much quit using my pack strap linen. I'd rather re-hone than mess with trying to refresh the edge with cloth. The amount of metal removed to re-hone is so minimal... may as well have the best edge i can get rather than worry about my razors future life without me

Thanked: 3164I had a Roma strop with that same label:
It was still in the original wrapping, so I never tried it out. 6-7 laps doesn't sound like much, though.

Neil

Thanked: 13245I do 25/50...
BUT I seem to remember the barber that taught be about straight shaving did way less... He did use both sides and told me too also, so I always have...
Perhaps and this is just a WAG here, perhaps the instructions are printed more toward a barber??? who would be using the razors multiple times per day so he would not need as many laps because he would never be letting the micro-corrosion build up....

Good point Glen, I hadn't thought about it being applied to a barber but it very well may be. I remember mparker762 posting here that he had taken a dull razor and through stropping he got it shaving sharp. Of course he did multiple laps and he is an expert stropper so ..... like anything else in this sport YMMV.

Thanks for the responses! I normally do 20 linen and 40 leather on my current home made strop (not this one). Once I get the Noma all cleaned up and usable I guess I will try and find out what seems to work best with it for me.

I do 25/60.
I remember when I was a kid and they still did straight shaves barbers did a bunch of stropping. I don't know the number but it was way more that 6x.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
