Isnt paraffin oil used in cosmetics? I believe its also used as a laxative?

I'm guessing if you can drink the stuff or put it on your skin it probably wont do the strop or razor any harm?

Of course, if I'm thinking of the wrong stuff it could be really bad. I'd wait until someone else can come in and confirm for sure whether you can use this stuff.

I'm just going on the memory of the matron at school using the stuff as medicine..! It came in this blue bottle with a white lift up cap, and it was absolutely vile. Cant remember the name at the moment.

You shouldnt put on so much that you are getting it on the razor though. Strop dressing of any kind should be applied sparingly and then allowed to soak in for a good few hours before you use the strop. If you're getting it on the razor, you're putting too much on.

    Thanks for confirming that!

I freely admit I just dont know enough about it to say whether that would be ok to use on a strop. I'd wait until someone else chimes in and hopefully they will be able to confirm either way..!

If you dont get a response here, you may be able to get an answer if you PM one of the strop makers here. Guys like Tony Miller, Neil Miller and Lynn at SRD all sell their own brand strops and will be able to advise you better.

    Good luck!

Use neatsfoot oil and use it sparingly. You can find it at any hardware store. Neatsfoot oil is what they are selling as strop dressing a bottle is only a few dollars
