    Default Ridges in my strop

    Hi All,

As the title says, there are small ridges in one of my strops and I think they're causing some trouble. Basically, the strop doesn't work.

I think they just developed by themselves, and are not in my other strop.

Does anyone know how to get them out?

    Advice would be greatly appreciated,

    Cheers

Tell us more about the strop. Is it new, vintage, type of leather? Have a pic?

What sort of ridges are they?
Are they a part of the grain or something that has developed over time?

I have 2 very cheap strops, the first one I got was slick and and of course I managed to knick it just a bit -hahaha-
The other one has a lot of grain to it- I didn't think that was right for a strop but what do I know? Nada

So I have another one on the way- leather on one side and on the linen side 9 inches is being treated with Diamond and the other 9 with CrOx-

I understand .25 diamond is pretty aggressive and I am to follow it with
the .50 CrOx then the strop.

It's a Paladin I bought new about 6 months ago. When I first got it it worked great, but it became very slick and lost its effectiveness. So I applied a little neatsfoot and it started working great again. Then the draw became too heavy so I pumiced it and applied lather and rubbed with a glass bottle. The results of that were fantastic. Now about 3 weeks after that the surface is no longer completely smooth - kind of like it has speed-bumps along it.
I'm not sure whether something I did caused it or they developed naturally, but I need to get them out because it no longer improves the razor's edge - it dulls it.

Doesn't Ken make the Paladin strop? I think if you emailed him he would be more than happy to help you out with this issue.
