    Default Modified Modular Paddle!

So, I didn't change much, but what I changed turned out FANTASTIC!

See, I live in a dorm, minimal space, so I've taken to using a maglite to pound thumbtacks into the interior rim of my Lofted dorm bed... I use these to hang my hanging strops. Well, I just got the Modular paddle... This thing is just the tops. You guys have heard me GUSHING about the Bridle (and Premium I)... This thing is better. I think I'm in love . Anywho, it's my favorite strop, and I love it like a first-born, however, My desk is small and cramped... There's no room for a paddle on it... and my dresser top is for toiletries and shaving stuff.. So where to put it?

Well, I decided to put a hole in the very bottom (bulge) of the handle, so I could hang it from a string (or a leather thong, for looks... More ideas!!) from the thumb tack... That looked rough and unfinished, and the modular paddle is too pretty for a rough looking hole... So, after a trip to Ace Hardware's plumbing section, I found EXACTLY what I was looking for (I was inspired by tarp Grommets)

I don't know what it's called, but it was in plumming... It's roughly 5/8" in diameter... And has a collar that is probably 1/8" around on end.. I drilled a hole in the paddle's handle that was MINUTELY smaller than this thing (by the way, it's hollow like a grommet... Should have mentioned that sooner) and used a flat-faced hammer to gently tap it in.. I was amazed by how perfect the size was... The collar lays perfectly flat on the front of the handle, and looks great, and, without ANY sanding, filing, or trimming, the un-collared end lays PERFECTLY flat on the back of the paddle.. 100% flush. It's great... And the color looks great with the strop. I'm absolutely thrilled with this thing. It was easy (if a little nervewracking... I don't have a drill press, so I had to hand-drill the handle, and keep it perfectly straight... "Oh God, what if I mess up, oh no oh no oh no..."... I like this paddle too much )

    So, I'm done rambling. Pictures!

The fist picture is just a plain paddle (Jacked the pic from SRD).. I didn't think to take pictures while working on it... Sorry.

    Cheers.
    Jeremy

EDIT: I just found out that the first picture you set to upload is the last one it loads, and the last you designate is the first it loads... That said, the first picture is the Back of the handle, showing how flush it turned out, the second is another angle on the back of the handle, Then a head-on of the front, that collar turned out great! Next is a Full view of the handle.. I love how the collar color mimics the etching on the paddle.. It just fits . Then another angle on that shot, and lastly, A stock modular paddle.

Excellent idea! and nice workmanship. This is the first thing I did to my modular paddle when it arrived. Just a smaller hole and leather thong for hanging, fastening the leather at the ends with a small diamerter copper wire winding.

That's awesome. I too have been considering doing the exact same thing so I can hang my paddle with my other strops. Thanks for taking point on this one.

Well, I'm sure PLENTY of people have thought to drill holes in them... I just hadn't seen anyone who had cleaned it up.. I wanted to find something like a grommet, so I could put a collar on both sides... But it turned out SO flush and clean, I am perfectly happy... And, hell, the collar/tube was 99 cents on the dot... So.. no complaints... 99 cents for the liner, a hammer, and a paddle. Done!

    Thanks guys!

    cheers,
    Jeremy

    Nice idea!

I think that collar is an insert for a plastic water pipe - we used to call them 'top-hat inserts' when I worked on a building site - they stop the pipe being crushed if you make a compression joint with brass fittings.

Haha, I will agree to being creative, but I don't think this really showcases that... I just drilled a hole and pounded in some metal.

    Thanks, though
