Thanked: 480Stropping Lesson Number 1
First lesson in how to strop a razor...
Hang your strop from a sturdy secure location. and use a secure fastener.
If your mounting should fail while stropping, strop/mount may strike blade of your beautiful Wolfertz razor that you just spent 2 hours honing the nicks out of, and cause you to have to do it all over again.

Thanked: 530That's an important one, although, look at it this way, you may have dented your razor, but that can be honed out... What if the strop had fallen on the razor, the razor had gashed, or CUT the strop, and then the mount had hit the blade, dinging it? or worse, DESTROYING the blade!
Haha, I'm a bottle of sunshine
That blows though... good luck with the honing!

A Wolfertz? Ah, the pity and the sorrow........They rank high among the finest American made straight razors, in my opinion. My condolences, and I hope the dings can be honed out. By any chance, was this a 6/8 diameter or better blade?

Thanked: 480Strop was on a simple hook like this one. Its about as big as a quarter, and normally works fine for holding up all sorts of things. But instead of being made out of brass or steel, it seems that this one was pot metal with a brass plating. It just snapped in half!
Here is a picture of "Wolfy" the chips are small and hard to see, but this thing is such hard steel, its going to take a while to get them out!

Thanked: 522Those itty-bitty nicks don't look bad at all. Hone it up again and full speed ahead. It could have been much worse.

Thanked: 30WOW.. sorry to hear that. It really could of been worst. You could of nicked the strop AND chipped the razor. What is the scales on that razor made of? Is it stock? it is really nice.
