Thanked: 13249Nichiri Co. ltd Pelican American Type strop
I just got this strop with a matching razor...
Some facts:
Dual component strop
Pelican American Type AP stamped on strop
overall length of leather = 26 inches
width = 2 3/4 inches
Silver color hardware, medium duty
Some opinions:
Linen is aggressive and has a great feel, seriously one of the best I personally have laid a razor on, it seems to work pretty well too...
Leather is thick 3/16 in well tanned has a medium draw, very supple, there are a very few, very minor, imperfections that would take this out of the premium side of things, at least in my mind a "premium" strop should be near perfect...I can be called very critical..
The hardware is good looking and well made, it is between the light duty stuff found on Illinois strops and the heavy duty stuff found on the premium strops like SRD has.. Hence me calling it medium duty...
The stitching and accouterments are well done and well made...
On a personal note, I generally like a handle on a strop, this one does not have one...
All in all a high quality strop..

I really like the look of that set. Especially the razor. Always been fond of the shoulderless(?) blades.

Just a little note about Japanese craftsmen Glen. It is quite common for the Japanese craftsman to intentionally leave some imperfection in their work or leave some portion of their work undone. This was supposed to keep the craftsman humble as perfection is the pervue of the gods and not man. This was so at least when my mother was a girl in Japan and before. I don't know if this is a prevailing attitude now in Japan though. It may explain the imperfections in an otherwise perfect strop.

When I saw the cloth strop that was a giveaway. Very distinctive weave and color he uses.

Wow, beautiful strop, Glen. I love the detail on the hardware. I've been looking for a vintage strop just because I love the attention to detail that could be found on the hardware.
Cheers,
Larry

Sorry to bring up this old thread but I really like what I see there!
I am in the market for a substitute to my old Dovo Strop to accompany my Kanayama Llama that I love very much.
Would you mind telling me something about the surface of this strop?
Is it velvety, or slick and smooth like the Llama?
