Thread: 7yo damaged my strop!

my kids could break a anvil in a sandbox as could i back in the day.lightly oil the strop, love the child and go from there ... on a happy note,just wait untill she learns how to drive.

Better your kid then yourself, yesterday i was using my Joseph Rodgers 11/16ths beautiful razor in bloodwood, and like a moron and mind you I havent done this since the first razor I bought, I dinged it on the edge of the faucet, duh...

Well to top things off on my stupidom...I decided hey what the heck let me try to strop it out on my SRD Bridle strop LMAO... duh again, nice little scratch up the left side about 4 inches, luckily it healed up with some mink oil, not enough to truly damage the strop, but still I felt like such a moron.

My daughter doesnt get a chance at my strop I hang it high when Im done using it, so no worries there, same with my razors all out of reach of toddlers.

Sadly, my wife absconded with one of my brushes and now uses it on her legs ( cause it feels so soft) yay...err.. i guess... lol

Thank god the mink oil worked or I would have cried, NO SERIOUSLY. broke down into tears.

Too bad, but the damage to your strop is not fatal. Depending on how deep the scratches are on your strop you can repair it. You will evenutally have to replace it anyway. Then you can retire that strop from everyday use and use it for Cro Ox or pastes.

Consider too hanging your strop high and out of reach of your 7 yo--either in the bathroom or your closet when it is not in use. Out of sight, out of mind.

Look on the bright side...At least she didn't get her hands on your str8 razor. That may have been a real bloodbath.

I'm a father of a 5 and 9 yr old, and I love em more that anything. I get the IDK responce alot. Just keep your cool and talk to em. Although I must admit I had a idea for a new reality show. Fast animals, slow childred.

Yeah, as others have said, things are just things. Obviously she has to learn, but so do you. I was lucky and got into this sport when my kids were old enough to respect property and understand sharp edges. Good luck.

Thanks guys...I've had a day to cool off, and I really needed it. Lots of sage advice given over the last day. I think I'm going to explain that she is forgiven and that I appreciate her telling the truth without being prodded for it.

I remember watching my dad test a knife blade for sharpness, by running his thumb along the blade.

Of course, I had to try that too!

And that is why, tis better to teach proper handling and respect of objects rather than waiting until they figure it out for themselves!

Not only did I learn a lesson, so did my dad, and it was not so long after that he taught me all about guns (because thats a mistake that cant be stitched up and band-aided!)

I believe this calls for a hanging men. I know the horse we can use. Who'll supply the rope and the tree?
