Thanked: 199Here's the link to a thread I started. I think you will find your answers there
http://straightrazorpalace.com/strop...p-leather.html
I also went to Tandy and got the leather and hardware, and my strop works amazingly well. I ended up getting a 2.5" wide strip of top grain cowhide which was 50" long, and it's enough to make 2 strops. The strip of leather was well priced.
Good luck, if you need any help feel free to PM me!

Thanked: 199Also, I would suggest that if there is a Tandy anywhere near you, that you go visit the store in person. The quality of the leather can vary greatly, and it's much better if you go pick out the pieces in person so you can find one without any "rough" spots or "ruts" in it. Here is the leather I got for your references.

Thanked: 199Like in the other thread, you will need some Chicago Screws, and a couple 2" D-rings. The screws come in packs of 10 or 100. Get the 10. D-rings will come in a pack as well, but they are cheap, so don't get worried.
I already had a leather punch, but check to see what they have to make holes for the chicago screws. The lady at the store up here gave me a little tip when it comes to doubling the leather over, and I'd be glad to share it with ya. If I get some time soon, I'll throw up a diagram of how I made mine in this thread to give ya some ideas.

Michael's hobby store has leather, as does Hobby Lobby.

I highly recommend Leather Craft Supplies - Leathercraft. Check out their leather under "belts" and you'll see some good prices on 72-inch strips of latigo. So far that's the best affordable leather I've tried. I work with a gent who makes insanely wonderful strops from saddle leather, which is a bit pricier, but I've gotten excellent results from latigo, and the strop in my bathroom is still a latigo strop.
I strongly suggest getting the 3-inch-wide leather; I can't stand to own a strop that's narrower than my razor. I still find myself using an X-pattern even with a wide strop when I use a blade that isn't perfectly straight along the cutting edge, but I get better results more easily with a wide strop.
eleathersupply also has all the hardware you need, such as snap-hooks, Chicago screws, etc.
