Now that I ordered a red Latigo strop, I began to search for (or just found...) info about the other types of leather.

I just wanted to know how it was, compared to the others, and now I know. I just hope that it has more drag than the cheap one I have. It makes me feel like I'm doing something that has no effect when I don't feel any resistance.

Now, which one is better? The Red or the Black Latigo? Because I only saw the Black one mentioned in this thread...

    Ok, only kidding...

Can someone please tell me, what animal does red latigo come from?

Does the name latigo refere to a specifik part of the animals body?

I am having a hard time figuring out what the specifiks of a certain type leather is, and what kind of leather the different strops are made from.

    N. American term for cattle hide leather tanned with a combination of alum and gambier, used for cinches, ties, saddle strings and other saddlery work and for army accoutrements.

Saddle leather must have been what they used back then.

Having read this topic, it seems that I made the right choice with the strop I ordered today from SRD. I wanted one side to be relatively slick and other to have quite a lot of draw, so I decided to 'build my own strop' and ended up to select premium I and premium III leathers to my new strop. Does anyone have idea btw, how long it takes from the people in SRD to build a custom strop like this and post it?

Yeah ... they can be a little ornery , but generally quick turnaround.
