It is very standard to do diamond spray on felt, CrO on rough leather, nothing on smooth leather. You can put your abrasives on any of the pads if you like the edges you get.

+1 on Stefan's directions. I read somewhere on the SRP message board that it is a good idea to wipe your blade off after stropping it with the diamond sprayed felt, perhaps even the CrOxed rough leather before moving on to strop your razor on the smooth leather. It removes any diamond spray and/or CrOx residue from the blade so you won't deposit it on your daily (smooth) strop.

diamond first then crox last. or just use one or the other. some finish with 10 laps crox.some finish 10 laps .5. try them and see which you prefer, less is better with diamond as it can be harsh if you over do it. I'm going to start with just five.

I would suggest you use both felt pads for abrasives. You can use the scrub leather in lieu of linen or webbed fabric. I use the .5 diamond spray alongside a felt pad with Cerium oxide. Chromium oxide (aka CrO) will also work - just give it a try, but do not - as the others have already suggested - overdo it.

Here is my modular set up and what i do with each pad
    MY MODULAR SET UP

    2) Felt pads- one is used for .5 diamond spray and second is used for .25 diamond spray(bought as an add on to kit)
1)rough(scrub) leather pad-to clean my blade after i shave and dry off with toilette tissue.
1)Premium 1 pad-used last in my stropping routine. I personally find this leather to leave me with a great edge as a finisher
    1) Bridle leather pad(can purchase as an option)-i love the draw of this leather. And i use it a lot for stropping. This followed by the premium 1 pad is an AWESOME combo

i have just used the following and it worked and leeft no harshness at all. i used 10 laps on .5. i tested the shave of .5. the result was a nicer glide and no harsness. i added 5 laps on 0.25 spay shave was still fine not harsh yet still very sharp and comfy. i added 5 lap on cr.ox the shave was still very comfy no harshness and probably a little more softer all in all i think this is a great progression after honing. the felt pads work extremly well. I much prefer the spray to the pastes. Less mess just spray feels better .
