I know it's been asked a 100 times CroOX paste
Ok I just wanted to clarify, I have some CrOx from SRD in a bar form. What do guys think would be the best surface to aply it too on the SRD modular paddle. I'm using one felt piece for diamond spray .5 and I still have 1 virgin felt, 2 rough leather, 1 bridle leather, and 2 premium leather. I was wondering if it would work ok on the scrub leather and if so what is the best way to apply it when it comes in that format. Do you just rub it on directly like a crayon? I like the sound of the method used on the Japanese Knife Sharpening blog but there he has it in a powdered form. Or am I completely missing the whole oat on its usage. The crayon (that's what I'll call it) seems like it would work well on the Livi loom or on a canvas strop but I'm interested specifically if it is an ok option for one of the SDR modular pieces or if I should just wait and get some powder form?

IIRC, other guys here have applied it to the scrub leather, but you could also apply it to the smooth leather if you prefer.
Just rub the stuff on, but make sure you dont apply too much as it works better with just a light coat.

Thanked: 530IME, the best surface for the CrOx crayon out of them all would be the SRD Nylon Poly-Web. This stuff holds the CrOx perfectly and works GREAT! However, if you don't have anything of that available, I'd recommend the scrub leather as a fairly close second.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Jeremy

Thanked: 45Can someone post a pic of the SRD webbing with CrOx on it, preferably the crayon? It would be a helpful guide to me, more than words would (e.g., "not too much" "sparingly," "just a bit"). I am looking for pix on the webbing, as that is the material I plan to use with my SRD crayon.

Thanked: 530Here you go...
Sorry for the low quality, I have a camera-phone and no digital camera...
Picture one is the crayon and the strop (Duh >.<)
Picture two shows the edge so you can see how heavily I applied the CrOx... The whole surface was black... Like I said, I like a heavy coating
And picture three is the whole strop surface.
You don't need to load it on that heavily, I just prefer a heavier coat... In fact, I'm probably going to coat it a little bit more thickly soon... Just a few touchups to keep it nice and heavy...
Good luckLast edited by ShavedZombie; 06-09-2010 at 11:58 PM.
