In 20/20 hindsight I would have bought a 3" wide strop instead of the 2". In my haste I did not notice the drop down menu at SRD with all of the different strop options and upgrades, oh well.
As far as shaving soaps go, I happen to like the Mitchell's Wool Fat shave soap. A lot of people on the forum use the acronym MWF . It does not have a scent that is overpowering, lathers up real nice, and leaves the skin feeling nice.

Thanked: 0good or bad strop?
I was just about to buy it when i looked at the pic just one more time. if u click on the pic to blow it up it looks like the top leather part of the strop has a "flat" part on it. kind of like 2 small creases on it as if it is a stiff peace of leather and they had to really bend it hard to get it to look that way in the pic. Is that ok or does that even matter?

I had to look again to find what you are talking about.
I doubt it would be an issue... chances are you won't get that particular strop anyways. And if you do get a strop with issues I don't imagine it would be that difficult to get it exchanged.
Keep in mind that leather is a natural product, there are bound to be variances from one end to the other.

I would agree with Lynn and Robin. If you are upgrading to a new, improved strop I personally would opt for a 3" wide strop. There are several vendors who advertise here at SRP who sell a variety of 3" strops at different prices. Check them out.
As for shaving soap. Mitchell's Wool Fat shaving soap seems to be a favorite among many SRP members. I just got some MWF, but I have also had success with Valobra soft shaving soap. It comes in two varieties (almond and menthol) and is soft enough to mold into your bowl or mug by hand."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
