Thread: Powerstrop

Just out of curiousity has anyone used a mechanical device or Powerstrop (leather wheel sold for woodworking tools) on their razor? How did it work? Was it worth trying again? Does anyone use them one regular basis? I've seen an auto stropper on here but that's a "bracket" with the razor and strop treaded in and pulled through. I enjoy manual stropping but interested in gadgets to some extent, anyone?

I would imagine that it would be pitiful and damage the blade pretty badly. If you strop on one side at a time, you'll likely push over a bur to one side that then when you strop the other side it would push the bur over to the other side...eventually, your edge would fail.

This is a very, very bad idea-- and very dangerous as well.

i got started shaving with a straight razor because someone gave me one. it set in my shop for a few years untill i one day i thought ill clean this baby up. i have a tormec that i use for my carving tools so i gave it a try. the result was sharp but not shavready.thats how i found this site looking for the right way to get the job done. i still have that razor and its a great shaver. the result of all this is that i dont use the term razor sharp to describe my knife and chisel edges anymore. they are sharp, some way sharp but not near as keen as a well honed and stroped straight razor
