    Default Travel Strops

    Hello:

I am still a newbie, having been using a straight razor only since Christmas of 09. During the last 6 months, when I travelled, I just took my old twin blade and made do. Truth is, I'm getting so spoiled with the straights that I hate shaving with anything else.

So, my question is, what do you guys do when you travel; what sort of strop do you take along?

    Thank you,

    Scott

    Hey Scott,

I just take my regular strop - keep it somewhere flat in my bag and it is fine.

My razor(s) can go in my semi-hard shell Smiggle pencil case, along with the barber hone and styptic pencil. Brush in plastic bag and shaving cream in its tub.

    All the best,
    Michael.

I picked up a little Tony Miller travel stop a while back. It's about 18" if I remember correctly. Horsehide & linen, great travel companion.

I never use my DE's anymore, so travelling is a fun excuse to break out my Merkur 11C
(also it's insanely easy to just throw it in my dopp kit and put a few blades in my checked luggage)

I take my normal strop, and just make sure I keep it flat in the bag. TBH, I'm pretty tempted to get a modular paddle for travelling. That way I get all the pastes along as well...!

I may be hurting any relationship your in by saying this... But what's one more strop Even if you don't use it to travel, you'll be glad you got one...

I have a small two sided wood paddle. Though it's small it does the job.

When I started I was traveling for work continuously it seemed. I happened upon the Hand American 12inch square sheet at woodcraft. I decided upon 2 inch wide at the time for the 1/16 inch thick leather. So it rolls up easily. Not the average concept of an ideal strop; but it works well enough that I have never made another strop since-though I had made a couple before that which were also smaller

These days, however; for a weekend trip I wouldn't bother with a strop. I can surely get two shaves without-maybe something to try at home before venturing out. For a week take two razors. Traveling is a chance to discover new possibilities and expand your horizon, no?

    Hello, Freud:

I take a small 2" Tony Miller linen and horsehide hanging strop. It is packed flat in my suitcase, and it works quite well.

    Regards,
    Obie
