Thread: Does anyone use Dovo Red Paste? and when?

I picked up a 10g tube of Red Paste DOVO Strop Paste and use it on the suede side of my paddle strop. Often times I'll use the pasted side prior to the untreated side before a shave. It's on a TI travel strop that I intend to use this summer on vacation.

Will this paste ruin the edge of a razor that just came off my Coticule? is it a step backward in the sharpening process? If it is, then what paste should I use?

Yes it is.
Dovo Red (about 3-5 micron)
Dovo Black (about 1-2 micron)
Chromium Oxide (0.5 micron)
Diamond Paste (0.25 micron)

Ok. It's a step backward in the honing process. I'll rip the suede side off my paddle and replace it with a new suede strip. That's easy.

I suppose this means that I should put the green Chromium Oxide paste on the strop, right? Before a shave I should run it across the green side a few times and then the untreated leather side, correct?

I'd avoid using it that often. It's simply unnecessary. Use plain leather everyday, but do a few laps on the CrO when the blade feels like it's losing its keenness.

I agree in full. Use the 0.5 micron chrome ox only when the edge starts to be less than what it was. Use the plain leather everyday just before each shave.

I've only been doing this about three months, but something tells me not to put anything on that strop unless it needs to be repaired.
