I used to use the smaller widths, then I got me a 3" strop and I definitely prefer the larger surface area.

    Grump,

    3"

I got a 3" because when I was new to stropping I found it easier to use (avoided X-strokes).

    Since then I have re-tried 2" - 21/2" strops, and found I still preferred the 3"

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

I don't really have a preference, I have a 2 1/2" and a 3". I use the 3" every day which is in the bathroom, and the 2 1/2" I use when I'm on holiday as it's easier to pack.

I have a 2 1/2 and a Tony Miller 3". I prefer the 3" because the whole blade fits on the strop at once and i find that if i am doing the x stroke, i significantly increase the risk of nicking my strop.

My first was a 2.5" Dorko strop and now I have a 3" SRD black latigo as well.

I definately prefer the 3" strop, just because you dont have to make an X pattern. I also think they look more chunky and cool..!

Most razors are 3 inches long and it makes for a perfect match up, whether you strop back and forth or like to do a little X stroke as well. I do still have a bunch of vintage strops around, but mainly use them to compare results against on the new stuff.

    Have fun,

I, too, only use 3'' strops, but am thinking of adding a few 2.5 just because that is the only size that the material comes in/the manufacturer provides...

Lynn, if your vintage strops are just gathering dust, I know of a loving home that would see that they get their due use... Hell, I'll even hand deliver them to this Strop Shelter if you'll ship them to me
