    squill,

A photo or two of the strop would be nice so that a proper evaluation can be undertaken by SRP members.

    squill,

    Your strop has acquired 'character'

You might try and smooth out some of the deeper nicks with abrasive paper wrapped around a pencil - gently chamfer the edges of the nick.

This worked with my first strop (named 'Scar Face'). Scar Face had plenty of 'character'

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Sounds like any of my strops, nicks happen!

You probably nicked where most everybody does near top, avoid deeper nicked areas with razor, and continue to use and slow down.
My first strop was not a nick, it was a fatality. Keep your new one aside till you improve.

I think we've all been in this position...

    The best options IMO??

Either buy a practice strop that will get chewed up until your skills improve, or buy a good quality modular strop with a replacement leather component from the get-go.
Also, as others have said.. slow down a bit until your confidence builds.

I think that might make a good quote for a straight razor shirt.

That would make a good T-shirt. I've nicked a few myself. The last few pages of this PDF on honing and stropping here in the SRP Wiki help files did my stropping some good.
