    Default wide strop

Can someone please recommend me a wide strop. I hate stropping in X patterns and I think im starting to damage my blade as a result.

You can't go wrong with with a 3" strop from Straight Razor Designs. They offer these in several different combinations of leathers and fabrics. As a noob, I didn't want to have to learn the x-stroke because I figured that would just be one more opportunity to put a serious nick in the strop. I got the 3" strop in red Latigo leather with the standard web fabric, and it's been great.

I recently bought the SRD 3" strop that they have on special for august. I didn't know what a strop was supposed to be till it arrived I had a <2" illonois Russian 827 that seems beat up to me it is new just condition doesn't seem great. If I knew what the difference was I would have got the SRD a long time ago. 3" also makes alot easier.

I shagged a SRD Premium IV when it was on special a month or so ago... the 3" work surface made a world of difference.

I can keep a keen edge on my 2" and 2.5" strops, but my blades just flows like butter on a skillet on the 3". Was well worth the cash IMHO.

    Pardon?

I have a Hand American Old Dog 830 that I love. They're well made & have a nice draw.

The SRD strops get endless praise too.

I second this! I just bought a Premium IV about a week ago. When I took it out of the box, it felt like it had been broken in for six months already. It was so smooth and to me, has the perfect draw.

As far as the X pattern, I tend to do a slight X pattern naturally, even with the 3".

+1 on the 3" SRD. I went with their 3" modular paddle and I love it. It came with a smooth leather, a rough leather, and 2 felt pads (for sprays/pastes), so it's really versatile and I can see it lasting a long time. Plus when I nick it up I can just order a replacement pad.
